We do stuff that moves people.
Golden Tree Productions mastermind projects that celebrate Cornish language, heritage and identity.
We construct giant mechanical puppets, devise theatre, create film, produce events, tell stories, uncover hidden history, deliver training, generate online resources, write books, construct exhibitions, develop educational materials, develop partnerships, advise policy-makers, repair Cornish hedges and build labyrinths…amongst other activities.
We work in collaboration with audiences that are currently under-engaged in heritage and arts, particularly those that are disadvantaged. We do this by designing cultural, educational and environmental solutions intended to make a meaningful and lasting difference to these communities.
For every project we work on we guarantee i) authentic Cornish provenance, ii) genuine contemporary relevance, and iii) highest artistic quality.
We are global trailblazers for Cornish Culture.
At Golden Tree, we mastermind projects that can help audiences discover a deeper notion of Cornishness, that is authentic, relevant and playful. We do Cornish culture in all its forms.
We deliver creative campaigns, consult on cultural projects and come up with creative solutions that change hearts and minds through Cornish arts, heritage, language, identity and culture.
We believe that a proper understanding of Cornish heritage brings about a cultural confidence and sense of pride in place.
By working in collaboration with audiences and local partners, we intend for all our projects to make a difference to communities and improve Cornish places for the better.
We are a not-for-profit, Cornish-led, Community Interest Company (CIC) with less than 1% of our core costs funded. Any profits generated are used to do more ‘stuff that moves people’. You can help support our work by sharing our story, purchasing items from our shop, subscribing to our newsletter or making a donation.
Our place shaping activities across Cornwall uncover the amazing treasures of our theatrical, sporting, musical, mining and cultural heritage, whilst unpacking Cornwall’s distinctiveness and diversity for local audiences.
Take Kerdroya, for instance, the 50m diameter Cornish Landscape Labyrinth we’re building entirely from traditional Cornish hedging, in the heart of Bodmin Moor. It’s a celebration of the Cornwall Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) Diamond Jubilee highlighting the cultural, geological and ecological importance of the humble Cornish hedge, that will encourage local pride and enjoyment of our Cornish landscape.
Our Cornish Language activities gather children, families and communities together through town trails, school resources, drop-in Cornish sessions and cultural events that creatively embed and celebrate the Cornish language, as a way of understanding place and fostering a sense of collective identity.
We’ve been awarded Cornwall Council’s ‘Cornish Language Learning and Communication Fund’ for four consecutive years, delivering the Go Cornish online platform and Go Cornish for Primary Schools, the dynamic Cornish language school delivery programme.
Our creative campaigns celebrate milestones, inspire audiences and raise awareness. We come up with creative solutions that demonstrate how Cornish heritage, culture and the arts can promote and drive positive economic and social outcomes, whilst fostering a sense of community cohesion.
We celebrated the Cornish Mining World Heritage Site (CMWHS) ‘tinth’ anniversary by masterminding ‘The Man Engine’, the largest mechanical puppet ever constructed in Britain. He steamed the length of the Cornish Mining World Heritage Site, was beloved by nearly 150,000 people on his first ten day tour and seismically changed the Cornish cultural landscape, while raising awareness of Cornwall’s mining heritage. The Big Boy was consequently awarded ‘Best Arts Project’ in the 2016 National Lottery Awards.
