James Music, known locally as ” Y Stiwdio Gerdd” has been established for over 30 years and is one of the largest independent musical instrument retailers in Wales. We are a real shop with a 5,000sq ft showroom spread over 2 floors and a dedicated team of trained staff who are always ready to help, whether it is at our Carmarthen premises or through our online store. We sell instruments, not just boxes, and can offer a complete, honest service which is second to none.

Our town centre store is full of musical instruments and sheet music, with a guitar room containing hundreds of guitars ready to test. Also on our first floor there is an electric piano and keyboard area, together with our drums showroom and bass department. In addition, our P.A gear (both for hire and sale) lives here.

We also have a complete range of Brass and Woodwind instruments, stocking industry leading brands like Yamaha, Trevor James, P.Mauriat, Buffet, Selmer and Yanagisawa. All of these instruments are available to test, simply contact us to arrange an appointment.

RENTAL
In addition, we rent out almost any musical instrument, including drum kits, guitars, pianos, violins, trumpets, saxes, clarinets, flutes and P.A systems. Pop down to see our range of rental equipment and you can walk out of the store the same day, ready to start playing!

James Music Academy teaches guitar, bass, ukulele and drums at our store in the centre of Carmarthen. We have dedicated rooms packed out with the latest gear making it the perfect place our students to learn to be the best as quickly as possible.

We offer all students the opportunity to go down the exam route.
We cover the syllabuses provided by the following educational bodies:

RGT Electric guitar
RGT Acoustic guitar
RGT Ukulele
Rockschool

Many of our students prefer to learn for pleasure, so if your goal is to play along to your favourite songs – No problem! We can do this too!

We are all different, so as a result we offer different types of teaching at James Music Academy.

For those that prefer 1 to 1 tuition, we’ve got it covered these range from £13 per half hour session.

Group lessons are also taught at James Music. Class size are kept to a maximum of 6 in a class and each 60 minute session costs £10. This makes this option very affordable and is also a very enjoyable and sociable way to learn a musical instrument.

Pupils are placed in classes of similar age and ability.

Having seen hundreds (in fact well over a thousand by now!) of pupils come through our Academy over the years it is great when we see them playing in bands on the local scene or even further afield.

We offer tuition 6 days a week.

Monday – Friday from 4 pm onwards, and all day Saturdays.

We also offer 1 on 1 tuition throughout the week in the days.

All our teachers are DBS checked and are happy to have parents sit in on the first couple lessons.
